Revolting with Care

How does care shape activism in times of political instability?

We are excited to share that we are part of "Revolting with Care" project created by Zuzana Révészová and Judit Angel, lead by tranzit.sk and Spolka, funded by ERSTE foundation.

"Revolting with Care is a two-year platform (2026–2027) exploring cultural resistance in times of democratic backsliding and economic austerity. Over the past decades, Central Europe has increasingly become a laboratory of illiberal cultural policy, where public cultural infrastructures are reshaped through political pressure, shifting funding priorities, and new systems of patronage. In this context, artists, curators, educators, and cultural workers are searching for ways to sustain cultural autonomy and defend open and plural cultural spaces.

The project approaches resistance through the lens of care. Drawing on feminist political thought, care can be understood as the collective work of maintaining and repairing the cultural ecosystems that allow public cultural life to exist. When institutions are weakened, politically captured, or defunded, sustaining cultural spaces and infrastructures can itself become a form of resistance.

Revolting with Care unfolds both as an online publishing platform and as a public programme. Research essays, conversations and reflections will be published on Substack, while workshops, reading circles, panel discussions, and other formats will create spaces for shared reflection and exchange, connecting local experiences with broader regional and international debates."
